In this modern age of veterinary medicine, the care available for household pets rivals that of their human owners. Diagnostics, treatments and procedures unheard of a decade ago, are now de rigueur for animals. These days dogs and cats routinely get root canals and endoscopies and ultrasounds from specialists. Four Seasons Veterinary Specialists opened its doors on March 17, 2014 to provide such specialty medicine with board-certified veterinarians in surgery, radiology, dentistry, cardiology, critical care and internal medicine, along with 24-hour emergency care. Drs. Jennifer Lowry and Tara Britt lead a team of experts brought together under one roof to provide compassionate care in a state-of-the-art facility. “We really are planning on becoming the regional center for this area,” Dr. Lowry contends, with plans to add more specialties and a CT scanner on the horizon.
Four Seasons works in conjunction with family veterinarians to help pets maintain their health and quality of life. As specialists, we avoid the wellness part of veterinary medicine (vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery, etc.), but remain at the ready when needed for illnesses and accidents. Our internists are expert diagnosticians, treating acute and chronic diseases like diabetes and Addison’s disease. Our cardiologist treats all sorts of cardiovascular cases – heart murmurs, high blood pressure, atrial fibrillation. Our dentist can treat gingivitis, fix a broken tooth or jaw, and help with halitosis. Our radiologists perform abdominal ultrasounds, echocardiograms and read x-rays searching for tumors and other abnormalities. Our surgeon removes foreign body obstructions and tumors, unblocks cat urethras, and fixes torn tendons and broken bones. Our criticalist ensures cases in the ICU are properly managed be they infectious disease, chronic conditions or trauma. The ER staff stands by 24/7 for any emergency. If a dog is bit by a rattlesnake or hit by a car or eats a pan of brownies, or a cat struggles to breathe or swallows a rubberband or spikes a fever, we are at the ready any hour of the day every day of the year.
What sets Four Seasons apart? More than anything it is our staff of dedicated, compassionate, highly trained professionals. You’ll get to know each of them here, as we share their stories and those of their patients in the weeks and months to come. I hope you’ll continue to read these posts as we grow into our beautiful new space! ~ Jane, May 2014
